Sketches from the London Yiddish Press
Wednesday, October 29, 2025
5:00 pm
3080 Broadway (corner West 122 Street), Manhattan
Between 1884 and 1954, the London press published hundreds of feuilletons/urban sketches by local writers about London Jewish life. The short stories are satirical, humorous and moving, and address such topics as: war between the sexes at home, politics in the cafés, and Torah scrolls in the streets. The stories were written by both well-known writers (Morris Winchevsky, Yosef Hayim Brenner and Esther Kreitman), as well as lesser-known writers.
Vivi Lachs and Sheva Zucker (Yiddish teacher and former editor of Afn Shvel) will collaborate in presenting a series of stories – in English and Yiddish – and will discuss the topics that were highlighted by the press.
Vivi’s book will be for sale.
Only $25 – discounted from the $35 list price. Cash only!
Admission is free.
