The League for Yiddish publishes two double issues annually of the all-Yiddish magazine Afn Shvel. Launched in 1941 (as the organ of the Freeland League for Territorialist Colonization), Afn Shvel is the longest continuously published Yiddish magazine in the world.

Submissions
We welcome unsolicited manuscripts. Text should be typed double-spaced, in the Yiddish alphabet, including diacritical marks as per the Standardized Yiddish Orthography. Editorial Staff
Miriam Trinh
Miriam Trinh has been serving as Editor-in-Chief of Afn Shvel since 2020. She was born in Cracow, Poland, and grew up in Hamburg, Germany. After graduating high school, she made aliyah and studied philosophy and Yiddish at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She completed her Masters degree at the Sorbonne in Paris. The subject of her doctoral dissertation at Hebrew University was multilingual poetry written in ghettos and concentration camps.
She has been teaching Yiddish and Yiddish literature since 1999, has taught in various international summer courses and now works at Hebrew University.
In 2018 she co-founded, along with Eliezer Niborski, the YO Yiddish Center, which promotes Yiddish language and culture through activities and events, chiefly in mame-loshn, in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, as well as internationally via Zoom.
Aside from teaching and her work as editor-in-chief of Afn Shvel, she is a professional translator from and into Yiddish. She has four children who are native Yiddish speakers.
Gitl Schaechter-Viswanath
Gitl Schaechter-Viswanath, Yiddish Language Editor, is co-editor-in-chief of the Comprehensive English-Yiddish Dictionary (2016; 2021) and the Yiddish-language editor of Afn Shvel. A Yiddish poet, she has published her work in magazines and books as well as in a 2003 bilingual volume, Plutsemdiker Regn/Sudden Rain. Gitl has devoted her life to promoting Yiddish as a living language. Her three children are fluent in Yiddish and are raising their own children with this heritage.
Yankl Salant
Yankl Salant, Art Director, oversees the visual look of the League for Yiddish and is graphic designer for its publications. He is also translation editor for the Yiddish Book Center’s forthcoming publications, and works with Dr. Joshua Karlip as translation editor and translator for his forthcoming book Oyfn Sheydveg. An associate editor of the Comprehensive Yiddish-English Dictionary (2013), Yankl was bibliographic editor and a translator for the YIVO Encyclopedia of Jews in Eastern Europe (2008).
