ד״ר מרים טרין איז געבוירן אין קראָקע (פּוילן), אויפֿגעוואַקסן אין דייַטשלאַנד, עולה געווען קיין ישׂראל.
זי האָט שטודירט פֿילאָסאָפֿיע און ייִדיש, געשריבן איר מאַגיסטער אין דער סאָרבאָן (פּאַריז), און איר דאָקטאָראַט – וועגן שפּראַכיקער פּאָעזיע אין די געטאָ און לאַגערן – אינעם העברעיִשן אוניווערסיטעט אין ירושלים. זינט 1999 לערנט זי ייִדיש און ייִדיש־ליטעראַטור אין אַ סך ערטער, צווישן זיי: פּאַריז, אָקספֿאָרד, שטראַסבורג, טריִער, ווילנע, ירושלים, תּל־אָבֿיבֿ און ניו־יאָרק. אין 2013–2015 איז זי געווען אַ פּאָסט-דאָקטאָראַנטקע אין דזשאָנס־האָפּקינס־אוניווערסיטעט אין באַלטימאָר. אירע פֿאָרש־אינטערעסן זײַנען די חורבן־ליטעראַטור, דער עיקר אויף ייִדיש, און די ליטעראַרישע רעאַקציע צווישן אייראָפּעיִשע ייִדן אויפֿן אויפֿקום פֿון נאַציזם. מרים איז די שעף־רעדאַקטאָרשע פֿון אונזער זשורנאל „אויפֿן שוועל“.

Join us for a Zoom conversation with
Dr. Miriam Trinh
We will discuss her research work, her method for learning Yiddish, her learning program "Yo - Yiddish Ort." We will also talk about her work as the editor-in-chief of "Afn Shvel,” the magazine of the League for Yiddish, and a little about the history of this magazine.

Dr. Miriam Trinh is a researcher, teacher, editor, and cultural activist.
Born in Krakow (Poland), she grew up in Germany and immigrated to Israel. She studied philosophy and Yiddish, wrote her master's thesis at the Sorbonne (Paris) and her doctorate – on multilingual poetry in the ghettos and camps – at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Since 1999 she has been teaching Yiddish and Yiddish literature in many places, including: Paris, Oxford, Strasbourg, Trier, Vilnius, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and New York. In 2013-2015 she was a post-doctoral student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Her research interests are Holocaust literature, mainly in Yiddish, and the multilingual literary response among European Jews to the rise of Nazism. Miriam serves as the editor-in-chief of our magazine “Afn Shvel.”

Shane Baker is a Yiddish actor, stage artist, master of words, and cultural influencer. He learned from the previous generation of actors and continues the tradition of Yiddish theater by training students, and acting for decades on every Yiddish stage that exists around the world. Shane also leads the organization "Congress for Jewish Culture" where he works to disseminate Yiddish and Jewish culture.
