Tayere fraynd,
“Leshone toyve tikoseyvu!”
Best wishes from the League for Yiddish for
a sweet, happy and healthy New Year!
Like the shofar that we blow on Rosheshone, life is full of twists and turns that open up a world of new possibilities. As we look forward to celebrating the New Year, the League for Yiddish is excited to share news of our Fall activities that create new opportunities for Yiddish speakers around the world to learn and grow and for our beloved Yiddish to thrive:
• Our newest issue of Afn Shvel hits mailboxes soon and promises to be a landmark in the 80-year history of the magazine: the entire issue explores the war in Ukraine, Russian-Jewish-Ukrainian relations, and the rich history of Jewish life in the region. All members receive Afn Shvel; to renew your membership, or join to receive this and forthcoming issues, go to:
• "Yiddish in the Heights": our conference marking the 15th yortsayt of our founder, Dr. Mordkhe Schaechter, will explore Yiddish academia and activism in Post-War New York and feature keynote lectures by renowned professors of Yiddish literature, David Roskies and Anita Norich. Save the dates November 20-21.
• Our digital blits-buletin newsletter now connects Yiddish lovers to each other and to our expanded calendar of ongoing events – interviews, performances, panel discussions and more – held entirely in mame-loshn. Please forward the blits-buletin to your Yiddish-loving friends who might be interested, and help grow our global community!
Thanks to support from generous friends like you, the League for Yiddish has been able to expand its online presence, plan new publications and continue popular offerings such as Verter fun der vokh - Words of the Week. If you have ideas for topics for this weekly column to explore, please let us know.
Once again, best wishes for a healthy and peaceful New Year from the League for Yiddish. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon.
Mit vareme grusn,
Gitl Schaechter-Viswanath
Board Chair
