with the devoted Bundist and Yiddish activist
Elliott (Elye) Palevsky
We will talk about his family's history and their work on behalf of Yiddish in Lithuania and then in America, what it was like to grow up in a Bundist home, and what it means to be a Bundist today. We will also talk about his various roles in Yiddish organizations over the years.
(The conversation will be in Yiddish.)

Elliott (Elye) Palevsky was born in New York to a family from Lithuania. He has been active for decades in various Yiddish organizations in New York, among them: as a culture director at Camp Hemshekh (New York); board member of the League for Yiddish, and more. He has taught Yiddish language, literature and culture at the Yiddish Institute (Vilnius University), Queens College (New York), and Workmen’s Circle and Sholem Aleichem Schools.

Listen to Eli Benedict discuss (in Yiddish) his life and work, emphasizing his importance in the Hasidic world, and in the world of Jewish music. Eli also talks about what R. Michael has innovated throughout his life, and why it's worth getting to know him if you don't know him yet.
R. Michael was born in 1961, and passed away a month ago, April 14, 2023. He was a well-known singer in the Hasidic community, and released more than fifteen music albums during his life, most of them in Yiddish.
