Ikh muz dertseyln/I Must Tell You is an innovative comprehensive textbook for high intermediate and advanced Yiddish students based on personal narratives. The book was written by Dr. Sheva Zucker, long-time Yiddish educator and editor-in-chief emeritus of the magazine Afn Shvel.

This volume features autobiographical excerpts by nine writers, including the well-known Yiddish authors Kadye Molodowsky and Meylekh Ravitsh; iconic religious educator Sarah Schenirer; as well as lesser-known figures such as memoirists Yekheskl Kotik, Hinde Bergner and Puah Rakowsky, among others.

These autobiographical narratives include a variety of topics, reflecting the author’s life experiences: emigration, early education, marriage (from both male and female perspectives), divorce, tensions between traditional Jewish life and assimilation, political activism, Yiddish literary life and the Jewish world in transition.

Each chapter includes grammatical explanations and exercises that are integrated with the reading materials, as well as glossaries. Audio recordings of each autobiographical excerpt (read by Sheva Zucker) will soon be available at Bandcamp. Link to come.
