Philip Schwartz
We will discuss Yiddish in Eastern Europe, especially Poland and Polish Jews; what it means to be a contemporary Yiddishist in Eastern Europe; what Neo-Hasidism means and where you can find it in the literature; as well as Yiddish journalism and teaching.

Philip Schwartz was born in Germany, Poland. He studied Slavic linguistics, Eastern European history, and Holocaust studies. He completed his master’s degree in Jewish studies at the University of Wrocław, and is currently a PhD student in Yiddish literature. His research interests include neo-Hasidic literature and Soviet Jewish culture. Philip writes for various magazines and newspapers among them: Forward, Afn Shvel, Yiddishland and more. Philip is also a Yiddish teacher at YIVO.
