This heartbreaking interview (in Yiddish) was conducted several months ago, in April 2024. Today—almost a year after the horrific events of October 7th, as the war in Gaza continues—we are making it available to the public because the atrocities committed by Hamas remain critically relevant and must not be forgotten. The recent murder of six young captives serves as a stark reminder that the world is confronting a ruthless terrorist organization, willing to kill the innocent even during supposed ceasefire negotiations.

Moshe (Moty) Rozen is one of the survivors. Originally from Argentina, from a Yiddishist-oriented family, he has lived in Israel for many years and settled in Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak. There, he and his wife, along with all the other residents of the kibbutz and the surrounding kibbutzim, were caught off guard by the attacks one year ago during Simkhes-Toyre. In his testimony from that day, he describes the terror of the early hours, the uncertainty and life-threatening danger, the suffering of being taken captive in his own home, and the harrowing and protracted journey with his wife to the breached border. From the beginning, it was important for him to testify. Doing so in his mother tongue was a unique experience for him, and us as well.
May he merit a complete and speedy recovery. May others who were less fortunate than he return alive from Gaza. May all those who perished there be remembered.
