Prof. ‪Claudia Rosenzweig

We will discuss the fascinating history of Yiddish books and printing in the 16th century, and especially about Yiddish in Italy. Among those publications are well-known books such as Bovo-Bukh by Elye Bokher (Elijah Levita); Ku-Bukh and more. We will also talk more broadly about Old and Middle Yiddish, and how they differ from Modern Yiddish, drawing on Rosenzweig’s research on these topics.

We also explore the development of the bans and conflicts against them within religious circles, which continue to the present day.
