Is טאַקע actually “really”?
The word טאַקע is typically used to provide or request confirmation relative to expectations.
1. In questions, requesting confirmation or expressing surprise or doubt:
טאַקע?
[TÁKE?]
Really? (= ‘Is that indeed so?’)
האָסט טאַקע <באמת> נישט געוווּסט?
[HOST TÁKE NIShT GEVÚST?]
Really, you didn’t know? (= ‘I thought you knew!’)
האָט זי טאַקע <באמת> פּלאַנירט צו לייענען דאָס ביכל?
[HOT ZI TÁKE PLANÍRT TSU LÉYENEN DOS BIKhL?]
Was she (really/actually) planning to read the book? (= ‘truly, actually’)
2. In statements, expressing conformity with hopes or expectations:
צום סוף איז ער טאַקע געפֿאָרן מיט דער באַן.
[TSUM SOF IZ ER TÁKE GEFÓRN MIT DER BAN.]
In the end he did take the train (= ‘indeed, as expected’).
מיר האָבן זיך געזאָרגט, אָבער צום סוף איז טאַקע געווען גענוג עסן.
[MIR HOBN ZIKh GEZÓRGT, ÓBER TSUM SÓF IZ TÁKE GEVÉN GENÚG ESN.]
We were worried, but there actually was enough food. ( = ‘as we had hoped’)

But: The English words ‘really’ and ‘actually’ have a variety of other functions that typically do NOT correspond to the Yiddish טאַקע.
3. ‘Really’ as an intensifier (= ‘very, really’): באמת; זייער; שטאַרק; גוט
[BEÉMES; ZÉYER; ShTARK; GUT]
It was really nice to see them.
ס׳איז געווען באמת <זייער/שטאַרק> שיין זיך מיט זיי צו זען.
[S’IZ GEVÉN BEÉMES ShEYN ZIKh MIT ZEY TSU ZEN.]
I’m really hungry.
איך בין באמת <זייער/שטאַרק/גוט> הונגעריק.

4. clarification contrary to assumption (‘actually, really’): אין דער אמתן; פֿאַקטיש; גאָר

I thought the jacket was green, but really/actually it was blue.
