Between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we Jews have traditionally reflected on the things that bind us, that connect us, and that root us in community. The difficult events of this past year – from Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel to the unprecedented rise in antisemitism – have underscored the importance of our enduring bonds.
For lovers of Yiddish, mame-loshn is just such a tie that binds us together. It also gives us hope for the future, as Yiddish has survived attempts to eradicate its speakers, literature, and the very language itself, to emerge as a vibrant, cultural movement with devotees worldwide.
The League for Yiddish is dedicated to ensuring that Yiddish remains relevant both as a Jewish and a world language. We are the leading source of contemporary reading material for Yiddish readers and students. With our live online interviews, conducted in Yiddish, with prominent writers, scholars, artists and community leaders, the League engages Yiddish speakers at all levels of fluency. In addition, our textbooks and graded readers are a welcoming portal to the Yiddish literary world and the lives of Yiddish writers.
